The UGA Community Music School is committed to providing musical instruction to meet the needs of all developing musicians in all styles of music, not just classical instruction.  CMS includes instruction in  jazz, rock, folk, and bluegrass.  Please contact the CMS office if you are interested in lessons in any of these styles so we can be sure to place you with the appropriate instructor.



Bluegrass Jam Class

Students of all ages and ability are invited to join our Bluegrass Jam Class.  Classes will meet weekly on Wednesdays  at 6pm in Room 304 of the School of Music.  Class content is adjusted for the level of the participants, but the skills of playing-by-ear, basic chord progressions, singing, instrumental skills, and improvisation are covered.

Pay an extra $40 here and get 2 30-minute private lessons in addition to the class.  The lessons will be scheduled at mutually convenient times between teacher and student. These are an excellent chance to ask specific questions about concepts covered in class, or to go further in-depth with any of the class concepts.


Folk/Bluegrass Private Instruction:
for students of all ages

30-minute lessons per semester (14 weeks) = $364
45-min lessons per semester = $560
1 hour lessons per semester = $728

MUSI 1700/3700

Private instruction for academic credit for UGA Undergraduate students. Please see for further information including registration procedures. This course includes 6.5 hours of instruction throughout the semester plus one seminar TBD. Instruction is available in folk and bluegrass instruments (fiddle, mandolin, banjo, upright string bass) in addition to classical instruments. $338/semester
